Counting Bin in OTO PACK

Modified on Thu, 6 Mar at 2:34 PM

Counting is an essential inventory management process that ensures the accuracy of bin quantities. In OTO PACK, the Count feature is exclusive to OTO PACK Advanced with Bin Tracking enabled and is available only through the OTO PACK Mobile App.

Why Counting is Important

Counting helps warehouse managers and staff maintain accurate inventory levels, identify discrepancies, and reconcile any excess or missing quantities. This process ensures smooth warehouse operations and minimizes errors during picking and packing.

Steps for Counting

To perform a count, follow these steps in the OTO PACK Mobile App:

  1. Access the Count Feature:

    • From the bottom menu, tap Menu and then select Count to navigate to the Count Page.

  1. Select Bin and SKU:

    • Choose the bin you want to count.

    • Select the specific SKU to verify its quantity.

  1. Perform the Physical Count:

    • Conduct the physical count of items in the bin.

    • Enter the new quantity and press Add.

  1. Finalize the Count:

    • Save the updated quantity with pressing center button “Complete”. This action will:

      • Adjust the inventory in the counted bin to match the entered quantity.

      • Automatically log any excess or missing quantities into the Adjustment Bin.

    • Everything on screen resets after “Complete” action. If you need to count more; please continue by selecting Bin & SKU again.

Prerequisite: Adjustment Bin

Before using the Count feature, ensure an Adjustment Bin is set up in the system. This bin is critical for reconciling discrepancies:

  • Excess Quantities: Items discovered beyond the recorded inventory are moved to the Adjustment Bin.

  • Missing Quantities: Shortages compared to the recorded inventory are deducted and logged in the Adjustment Bin.

Having an Adjustment Bin allows for seamless inventory adjustments without affecting the actual storage bins.

Pro Tips for Effective Counting

  1. Plan Regular Counts:

    • Schedule counts periodically to keep inventory records accurate.

  2. Use Scanning for Accuracy:

    • Leverage barcode scanning during counting to minimize errors.

  3. Ensure Prerequisites:

    • Double-check that the Adjustment Bin is properly configured before starting any count actions.

Conclusion

Counting in OTO PACK ensures inventory accuracy and operational efficiency. By following the streamlined steps and maintaining an Adjustment Bin, discrepancies are reconciled quickly, helping you maintain a well-organized and reliable warehouse. With the mobile app's easy-to-use interface, counting becomes a smooth and efficient task.
